Protein expression - AMACR
High magnification of prostate cancer (adenocarcinoma) showing expression of the prostate cancer marker AMACR. Prostate cancer cells show positive staining, whereas normal prostate epithelia is negative.
AMACR - Marker for prostate cancer
The AMACR gene encodes for the enzyme alpha-methylacyl-CoA racemase, which is an enzyme that is expressed by various human tissues by most strongly in kidney. AMACR is widely used as a biomarker for prostate cancer since AMACR is over-expressed in prostate cancer compared to normal prostate.
