In the latest episode of the new Proteomics show podcast series, "All the parts", neuroscientist at Karolinska Institute and HPA researcher Jan Mulder talks about many different aspects of the brain and brain research together with the hosts Benjamin Neely and Ben Orsburn.

The "All the parts" series in the Proteomics show is sponsored by US HUPO, and in the format of a "fireside chat" the hosts Ben and Ben aim to talk about each tissue, organ, and biofluid with experts in the field.

In this episode the focus is on the brain and Jan Mulder will for instance talk about how the complexity, the slow progress in understanding neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer, and the mere beauty of the brain made him fascinated by this organ. You will also hear about how the classification of brain regions have moved from simple grey and white matter into a variety of subregions and thousands of cell types, and how the definition of these cell types are made. Also discussed are the technological advances in spatial transcriptomics like Stereo-seq, as well as the fact that the brain is an unique organ but has very few unique genes. On top of all this you will also hear about the connection between astrocytes and liver, and how some Alzheimer risk genes are related to this.
