Multiplex tissue image of the month - FOXJ1 and HMGN3 in fallopian tubeIn this edition of multiplex tissue image of the month, the expression pattern of ciliogenesis-activating transcription factor FOXJ1 is contrasted with chromatin-regulating protein HMGN3 in fallopian tube. FOXJ1 is a transcription factor and the master regulator of the formation of motile cilia in multiciliated cells. The ciliated cells panel, that is used to visualize different subcellular structures in ciliated cells through multiplex immunohistochemistry (mIHC/IF), utilizes FOXJ1 as a nuclear marker for ciliated cells. Using mIHC/IF, FOXJ1 (magenta) and HMGN3 (green) - a nucleosome-binding protein involved in chromatin regulation - is shown to display to some extent different nuclear staining patterns in the fallopian tube. While FOXJ1 displays strong staining in a subset of the cells in the fallopian tube epithelium, HMGN3 shows a more general staining pattern.
